Susanna Young

Program Coordinator for International Programs

Susanna Young is the program coordinator at Cranwell International Center at Virginia Tech. Susanna is a community and cultural organizer, educator, artist, and producer. She worked for the German Fulbright Program at Cranwell for two years while completing her M.F.A. in the Directing and Public Dialogue program at Virginia Tech. She has extensive experience working with au pairs in the Roanoke Valley as a community counselor. As an activist and dance-theatre artist, she has created numerous grassroots projects, most recently completing Farm Dinner Theatre, an interactive performance event that partnered with local farmers to uplift stories of health, safety, and wellness on farms. This past Spring, her dance-theater immersive project, These Labored Hills, partnered with twelve land workers in Roanoke and was awarded a grant from Roanoke City’s ‘Year-of-the-Artist’ series, funded by the National Endowment for the Arts. She is currently a year-long, artist-in-residence with The Roanoke Arts Commission. She has served as the Director of Dance at The University of Lynchburg, running their dance company, DanceWorks, from 2017-2020. She was also a guest-artist-in-residence for the Hollins University theatre program, teaching acting and movement classes while directing and choreographing their theater shows.
