Maichal Valentine, International Student Services Assistant

Maichal Valentine

Maichal is the International Student Services Assistant at Cranwell International Center. Her parents met at Virginia Tech and settled in the New River Valley, so being a Hokie is a family affair. She graduated from Radford University summa cum laude with an Art History and Museum studies degree. One area of interest from her studies was an internship at a local museum cataloging historical donations and transcribing official records of enslaved people in rural Virginia.

Maichal loves to travel and has had the privilege of visiting Peru and Switzerland, especially the surrounding provinces outside of Lima, the town of Lugano, and the Virginia Tech Steger Center in Riva San Vitale. She is passionate about all types of history and appreciates diverse cultures and people. With a background in public librarianship and retail management, Maichal loves to create safe spaces where commonalities can be shared and differences appreciated. She is excited to learn more about and master the regulations for international student immigration advising.

Though Maichal loves problem solving, she is currently banned from doing puzzles because her family says she fixates on them too much. When not at work, one can find Maichal agonizing over writing the perfect novel, crafting spreadsheets, trying to keep her plants alive, baking cookies, spending time with loved ones, creative journaling, and reading books.
