You may start arriving on campus on Monday, August 14, 2017.  Please make sure you arrive NO LATER THAN the start of the Orientation Program. Orientation begins on Monday, August 21, 2017 and continues through Thursday, August 24, 2017. 

The Orientation Program is designed to help new undergraduate international students make a successful transition to life at Virginia Tech. The program is divided into four sections: Necessities, Essentials (Part One), Essentials (Part Two), and Transitions. Please make sure that you register for BOTH orientation sessions. Your registration is not complete until both are submitted. 

In addition, all new students must complete an Immigration Check-In at Cranwell International Center. You may complete this process beginning Monday, August 14, 2017 during normal business hours, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. 

There will also be a Parent/Family Orientation Session on Tuesday, August 22 from 12:00 - 3:00 PM, where campus partners will come together to discuss resources for both students and families. Registration is available through your Hokie SPA account. 

Necessities

Today, you will be able to move into your residence hall! You  will also have opportunities to take care of a wide range of necessities that are important for a good start to your life at Virginia Tech, such as getting your Hokie Passport, making sure your PID and 2-Factor Authentication are functioning properly, preparing for your academic advising meetings and course registration later in the week, setting up your local bank account and mobile phone services, and more. Global Ambassadors will be available to assist you with many of these necessities , as well as with any other questions you might have.

Immigration Check-In is required of all new international undergraduate students and is available all day, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM in the Cranwell International Center in Harper Hall; you will receive your Orientation Welcome Packet and Schedule when you check in. See Immigration Check-In for more information, including what documents you are required to bring with you for the check-in.

Essentials, Part One

Today, we will discuss important topics that directly impact your transition to life at Virginia Tech. Topics include academic expectations, classroom culture, cultural norms, critical campus resources to help you succeed, and more.

Essentials, Part Two

Today, you will continue to learn critical campus resources that ensure your success at Virginia Tech. You will be able to learn first-hand experience from Academic Advisors and current Virginia Tech students on how to navigate your first year as a Hokie. 

Immunization Clinic (Schiffert Health Center) - your appointment time will be emailed to you via your VT email account. 

9:00 AM - 12:00 PM      Orientation (100 McBryde Hall) Topics will include: Academic Advisor Panel                                         Discussion; International Student Panel Discussion. This is a chance for any                                           questions regarding academics. 

12:00 - 1:00 PM               Lunch with Global Ambassadors (Your on-campus meal plan starts today!)

1:00 - 3:30 PM                 Orientation (100 McBryde Hall) Topics will include: Living on Campus Do's                                            and Don'ts; How to get IT Help; How to get a Driver's Lisence; How to get a job

3:30 - 5:30 PM                 Shopping Trips (Meet outside of Harper Hall - sign-up is required.) 

5:00 PM                               Dinner with Global Ambassadors (On-campus - locations will vary)

Transitions 

Today, New Student Programs will help you complete the final transition step to become a Hokie. In addition to learning about more resources on campus, you will complete final registration for your classes and receive your Academic Schedule. Please make sure your PID/2-Factor Authentication is functioning properly and you have successfully completed the Registration Requirements prior to this day. (See Pre-Arrival page for detailed information).
