Mailing of Immigration Documents for Blacksburg Students
Document delivery options
Please choose one of the following options when requesting to have your immigration documents mailed or picked up:
The International Graduate Student Services office uses an express shipping service for students who wish to receive their documents via DHL, FedEx or UPS. Express shipping is done at the requesting individual's expense. Payment must be made by credit card (Visa, Amex, MasterCard or Discover cards only).
To request express mail service, log into our IntlHokies portal (VT PID and 2-factor authentication required), and complete the Express Mail Shipping e-form under F-1 Student Services or J-1 Student Services, whichever is applicable to you. Do NOT go to the DHL, FedEx or UPS sites directly.
You will need the following items:
- Your VT ID number (required)
- Mailing address
- Email address (preferably VT)
- Telephone number
- Credit card information
Pick-up by friend
If you wish to authorize a friend to pick up your document(s), email the friend's name to email@example.com and indicate what document friend is authorized to collect on your behalf. If you are submitting your request through the IntlHokies portal, you can indicate your choice and your friend's name there; in this case you do not need to email to firstname.lastname@example.org. The friend will have to show a photo ID at the time of the document pick-up.
During most of the year, immigration documents are sent through USPS within the U.S., or regular international airmail overseas, which can take 3-6 weeks to be delivered, depending upon the country. I-20 or DS-2019 forms for new students will not be shipped by regular airmail after May 15 for the fall semester, or after October 1 for spring semester. These mail services are not trackable.
