• Students seeking to apply for Curricular Practical Training (CPT) or Optional Practical Training (OPT) must attend a CPT or OPT Seminar OR set an appointment with an immigration advisor. 
  • Students seeking Change of Status or Reinstatement must set an appointment with an immigration advisor. 
  • All forms need a five (5) business day processing time, so please submit prior to any deadline.

Add Dependent Request

This form must be completed by students requesting a Form I-20 for their spouse and/or dependent children to use to obtain their F-2 visa for the US. 

Affidavit of Support

This form must be completed when a student's source of funding is not in the student’s name. 

Authorized Early Withdrawal

This form must be completed by any student who wishes to take a leave of absence, or withdraw, from the university.

Students must first obtain approval from the Cranwell International Center before dropping classes. Please meet with a DSO/ARO before leaving the University. Withdrawing from the university without authorization from the Cranwell International Center will result in a negative termination on a student’s SEVIS record. 

Concurrent Enrollment

This form must be completed by any F-1 student seeking to enroll at both Virginia Tech and another accredited institution.

Students must obtain approval from their academic department and Cranwell International Center.  Students are required to be registered in at least 12 credits, 9 of which must be on-campus during the academic term.

Form I-20 Request (Extension)

This form must be completed by any F-1 student requesting an extension of their Form I-20 program end date. 

Although an F-1 student is admitted to the United States for a "duration of status" to complete an educational program, the student must actually complete his or her program before the program 
end date indicated in SEVIS. A student who will not complete the academic program by that date must meet with the DSO to discuss extension requests before the program end date.

Form I-20 Request (Initial)

This form must completed by any F-1 student that has been outside of the US for more than 5 months and needs a new initial Form I-20.

Students who have been terminated for other reasons, such as suspension, must also receive a new initial Form I-20 before reentering the US. 

Form I-20 Request (Replacement)

This form must be completed by students requesting a new Form I-20 or Form DS-2019. 

Student's will need a new Form I-20 or Form DS-2019 if they have changed their major and/or wish to replace a lost document. 

Optional Practical Training (OPT) Reporting

This form must be completed by any F-1 student on OPT who has had a change in the following:

  • Address and/or name change
  • Change in employer
  • Change in status
  • Any period(s) of unemployment

Students are required to report these changes to the Cranwell International Center within 10 days of the change.

Optional Practical Training (OPT) Stem Extension

This form must be completed by any F-1 student who, once they have reached Post-Completion OPT, wish to extend. 

After Post-Completion OPT, students in the STEM category may be eligible to apply for an additional 24-Month extension. This form must be submitted to Cranwell International Center and received by USCIS prior to the end of your current OPT work authorization.

  • Any student who completes this process in time will be able to continue employment while the OPT extension application is pending, until a final decision is made by USCIS or for 180 days, whichever comes first
  • Students can submit an application to USCIS as early as 90 days prior to the end of the current OPT work authorization period but no later than the current OPT work authorization end date.

Reduced Course Load (Academic)

This form must be completed by students who wish to drop below full-time (12 credits) during the academic term.

Students may not drop below full-time prior to approval from the Cranwell International Center.

Reduced Course Load (Medical)

This form must be completed by students who wish to drop below full-time (12 credits) due to illness or medical condition. 

Students may not drop below full-time prior to approval from the Cranwell International Center or without having their form signed by a licensed medical practitioner.

Transfer In

This form must be completed by students wishing to transfer to Virginia Tech.

Students must also communicate with their current institution the desire to transfer to Virginia Tech.

Transfer Out

This form must be completed by students wishing to transfer out of Virginia Tech.

Students will need to provide an acceptance letter from the institution they will attend when submitting this form.

Travel Signature Request

This form must be completed by students who wish to travel outside the US, but plan to return and resume their studies.  

Travel Signatures are valid for one year from the date signed. Please plan ahead prior to any breaks to ensure this form is submitted with enough processing time prior to leaving the US. Any forms turned in late are subject to shipping costs in order to recieve it prior to returning to the US.
